The story in brief.

Anne Farrens

Anne Farrens is a pro-life speaker, advocate, and writer whose story begins before she was born. In 1983, her mother survived a violent assault and chose life — a decision Anne didn't learn the truth about until she was twelve. The weight of that revelation shaped everything that followed: years of shame, her own abortion at seventeen, and a long road back through faith to healing. Today Anne speaks nationally on the dignity of every human life, with a particular focus on children conceived in rape, incest, or other violent circumstances — and the brave women who carry them.

Medium Bio — ~150 words

Today Anne speaks nationally on the dignity of every human life, with a particular focus on children conceived in rape, incest, or other violent circumstances — and the brave women who carry them. Her apostolate, Beyond the Exception, challenges the cultural assumption that these lives are acceptable losses. She speaks from brokenness, not from a platform — and that is precisely what makes the room go quiet. Anne lives in Idaho with her husband and two children.

Full Bio

Anne Farrens was never supposed to exist — at least not according to the advice her mother received in 1983, after a violent assault left her pregnant and terrified. The world offered one answer. Her mother chose another.

Anne grew up not knowing the truth of her conception. When she learned it at twelve, the revelation reshaped everything: her sense of self, her relationship with her body, her understanding of where she stood in the world. The years that followed were marked by shame she couldn't name and pain she couldn't explain. By seventeen, she had her own abortion. By her early twenties, she had a story she thought she'd carry in silence forever.

She didn't. What began as a hesitant willingness to speak — at a parish, a retreat, a pro-life gathering — became a calling. Anne found that telling her story broke something loose in the room. Women who had made the same choice came up afterward. Mothers who had chosen life under similar circumstances came up. Daughters of assault survivors came up. The story she'd carried alone turned out to be one many people had been waiting to hear.

Today, Anne speaks nationally under the banner of Beyond the Exception — an apostolate built on a single conviction: that there is no acceptable exception to the dignity of human life. The children conceived in rape, incest, or other traumatic circumstances are not the "hard cases" to be quietly conceded. They are human beings. Anne is one of them. And the women who carry them deserve a voice that speaks with them, not past them.

Her message is not condemnation. It is not politics. It is a story of grace reaching into the places where grace seems impossible — and staying there.

Anne holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Advertising and spent two decades in corporate aviation before her speaking ministry became full-time. She has appeared on EWTN's At Home with Jim and Joy, been featured by Live Action, and speaks at conferences, women's retreats, parishes, legislative events, podcasts, and college campuses across the country. She lives in Idaho with her husband Adam and their two children.

Story Angles

What makes this story different.

Anne's story is rare because it combines multiple dimensions that are usually covered separately.

The pro-life angle

Anne is herself conceived in rape — not a spokesperson for those cases but a living example. She speaks with a moral authority that arguments alone cannot carry.

The healing angle

Anne's own abortion at seventeen gives her credibility with women who have been on both sides of this story. She is not condemning — she is healing.

The faith angle

Her family's story is rooted in Catholic faith — her mother's choice was shaped by it, and Anne's healing came through it. An EWTN-aligned story with broader appeal.

The political angle

At a moment when rape and incest exceptions are at the center of national debate, Anne's existence is the argument. She is willing to be interviewed on this directly.
